The question on Resolution R26/12-8 was not called as discussion ensued with respect to (i) cost saving measures and evaluation criteria, (ii) the capital budgeting process and priority for capital projects, (iii) immediate action that could be taken to address speeding (e.g., speed cushions, four-way stop instead of the current two-way stop), and (iv) the annual budget program for construction of sidewalks and walkways versus the capital budgeting process (noting there are 240 residential streets in Richmond that do not have sidewalks).
In response to queries from Council, staff noted (i) there will be approximately 40 lights on the street, and (ii) the cost difference for a crushed gravel walkway instead of an asphalt could be roughly $100,000 cheaper, but the City would incur an ongoing cost for maintenance of the gravel walkway.
The question on Resolution R26/12-8 was then called and it was CARRIED with Mayor Brodie and Councillors Hobbs and Loo opposed.
