The Arborist Assessment states that there are a total of 18 bylaw protected trees on the site.
Additionally, there is 1 bylaw protected offsite tree and 1 bylaw protected City trees within
proximity of the proposed development. The applicant proposes to retain 1 offsite trees as
part of this development proposal. Additionally, 2 offsite trees are proposed for removal due
to these being in poor condition and 2 City trees are proposed for removal due to being in
poor condition.
•
For those trees that cannot be retained, the applicant will be required to plant trees on a 1 to 1
replacement ratio for Alder and Cottonwood trees, and a 2 to 1 replacement ratio for all other
trees, including those Alder and Cottonwood trees that are within a streamside protection
area. This will require a proposed total of 29 replacement trees on the site. Since only 17
replacement trees can be accommodated on the site, the proposed deficit of 12 replacement
trees will require an estimated cash-in-lieu payment of $6,600, representing $550 per tree, to
the Green City Program, in accordance with the City’s Tree Protection By-law.
•
The new trees on the site will consist of a variety of trees including maple, hawthorn,
dogwood, spruce and pine.
•
In summary, a total of 17 trees are proposed to be retained or replaced on the site with an
estimated contribution of $6,600 to the Green City Program.
